Healthy and Well Balanced
Salad dressings are a tricky thing. On the one hand, they are the main source of flavor in the salad, and on the other hand, they can often be really high in calories.
Since they are often made on the basis of mayonnaise or with lots of oil, they can easily have around five hundred calories per serving. So, it’s no surprise that a double cheeseburger often has fewer calories than the salads on the menu.
By the way, that’s one of the main reason I hardly ever order a salad in a restaurant. And if I do so, I always ask for dressing on the side. That way, I can at least adjust the amount of dressing that goes into my salad.
Okay, but now back to our today`s recipe. Because for this honey mustard dressing recipe I thought of a dressing that tastes delicious and goes well with a large variety of different salads. But obviously it’s also important to me that it the dressing is also wholesome and doesn’t have a high amount of calories.
So finally, I came up with this incredible easy four ingredients honey mustard dressing recipe. Since the dressing itself is super low-fat, we can even add an extra fat component to the salad like avocado, nuts, seeds or a drizzle of oil.

Ingredients
The quantities, as they are given in this honey mustard dressing recipe are equal to two servings. However, feel free to double, triple, or halve them, depending on how many people you’re cooking for.
In addition, you can always prepare a little more than you actually need. Since the leftovers can be perfectly stored in the fridge this would be a great meal prep hack. That way, you’ll have a ready-made salad dressing waiting for you in the fridge whenever you’ll need it during the week.
For this honey mustard dressing you’ll need …
- the juice of half a lemon
- two teaspoons of honey (12 grams)
- one teaspoon of Dijon mustard (5 to 10 grams)
- two tablespoons each of orange juice and water which is about 30 ml each
- some salt and pepper
Easy 4 Ingredients Honey Mustard Dressing Recipe – Here’s How It’s Done
For the preparation, you can mix the ingredients either in a small bowl or a measuring cup. I think it works best by using either a small whisk or a fork.
Alternatively, you can put all the ingredients for this honey mustard dressing recipe in a small jar. Then screw the lid on tightly and shake it like a cocktail.
If you want to prepare several servings of the salad dressing for the whole week, then you can also store the dressing in such a jar. Just put it in the refrigerator and you’re all set.

My Basic Salad Building Block Principle
Now that we have our honey mustard dressing recipe ready to serve, we can move on to the salad itself. And whenever I prepare a salad, whether it’s a side dish or a main course, I follow the building block principle.
So, imagine that our salad has different levels or components, with a foundation, a roof, which is the dressing, and different, smaller intermediate levels.
The foundation of our salad are the lettuce leaves. The selection ranges from iceberg salad, to lettuce, romaine lettuce, arugula and lamb’s lettuce, to spinach leaves and many more. Generally, I always prefer the salads, with leaves in dark, vibrant colors, as they contain more vitamins.
Next, our salad needs some crunch. This could be nuts, seeds, bell peppers or carrots, just to give some examples. To counter this, you could also add something creamy or soft, such as feta, cheese, eggs, or avocado.
Furthermore, our salad definitely needs a few flavor boosters. For this I like to add dried tomatoes, fresh herbs, onions, some olive or pumpkin seed oil or crisp tomatoes.
Finally, we need our dressing plus a fun little unexpected component, like some fruit or dried fruit. I’m telling you; nothing tastes as good in a salad as a few crisp apple pieces, a sweet pear, dried cranberries, or juicy peaches.
